The Lord of increase!

"Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit" (Leviticus 26:24).

Upon creation Adam was given a blessing: “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it" ( Genesis 1:28). This blessing of increase was manifested in the life of the Prophet Abraham too, a herdsman, who “became very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold" ( Genesis 13:2). While labouring under Laban, we find Jacob too "grew exceedingly prosperous and came to own large flocks, and female and male servants, and camels and donkeys" ( Genesis 30:43).

While increase is the way of God the opposite is true of the enemy, Satan. Upon being cleared to have his way with Job, Satan proceeded to strip him of everything. "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied. “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face" ( Job 1:10-12).

As believers God has promised to bless us with increase and prosperity. For "God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work"'( 2 Cor 9:8). We should pray to walk in His will and experience His full blessings, as promised that we "may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you" ( Genesis 6:3).

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, today I pray for your hand of increase to bless me in all that I do, this I pray in Jesus's name.
