"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" - Psalm 139:14 (NIV).

It is generally believed that when the German Karl Benz panteted the three-wheeled Motor Car, known as the "Motorwagen," in 1886, he launched the age of the modern automobile. For any who has run an automobile over sometime there are certain aspects critical if you want it to stay long. A car must be regularly serviced at particular intervals. Failure to do so will result into overlooking aging parts which need replacement and once they are completely worn out it might be too late to do any good. When a car lacks regular service its engine may one day completely break down due to aged oil.

The car is designed much like the human body. For the body to function well, it must be properly fed with food, which releases energy for the person. Because our bodies are always in motion being hammered from the grind of life, parts get worn out, necessitating extra care if not replacement. Matter of fact, there are now increasing number of organ transplants like kidney replacement, enabling the beneficiary to extend their life span.

Needless to say, one thing which is clear is, just as with a car, for our bodies to last we must feed them on proper nutrients and also regularly service life with regular health check ups. Short of that the body will soon tire and a life because of carelessness may be cruelly snapped to an end prematurely.

As believers we ought therefore to take good care of our bodies. For when we do so, as Paul observes they become way of worship, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship" (Romans 12:1)

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, I thank you for my body for it is a treasure and I pray you help me take good care of it as an act of worship, to your glory, this I pray in Jesus name!
