Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, we come to you with thanksgiving for the proceeding month of October. With all the wars screaming around us, near and far, we are reminded that ultimate peace is only through knowing you. “For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace ” ( Isaiah 9:6).

And in the midst of all this naked suffering of those torn in between these brutal wars we remember all and pray for your protection and healing. As we gather up ourselves to the close of this long year help us to look more to you as the supplier and finisher of all our needs. We affirm your rich word in our lives, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” ( Philippians 4:9).

And where there is any fear that bodes our hearts, you say, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” ( Joshua 1:9). And where the way seems unclear we are comforted to know you will make a way, “See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” ( Isaiah 43:19).

We therefore go out with hope, “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace” ( Numbers 6:24-26). All this we pray in the mighty name of our dear Lord Jesus Christ!
