Dream snatchers!
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5).
Several episodes in the Bible focus on dream snatchers—those who sought to frustrate or destroy what God had purposed for someone’s life. Perhaps the most obvious example is Joseph. Scripture tells us that one day Joseph shared his dreams with his brothers. Genesis 37:5 says, “Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more.”
His brothers then attempted to kill him. But God would not allow them to destroy the dream He had placed in Joseph’s heart. Although Joseph was sold into slavery and endured years of hardship, God eventually elevated him to become second in command in Egypt. The dream his brothers had tried to destroy was fulfilled.
There is also Moses who was born at a time when Pharaoh had ordered that every Hebrew boy be killed. But his mother hid him for three months, then she placed him in a basket made of reeds and put him among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. By God’s providence, Pharaoh’s daughter discovered the baby, took pity on him, and arranged for him to be nursed. She named him Moses, saying, “I drew him out of the water” (Exodus 2:10).
Years later, Moses became the great deliverer of the Israelites—the very people Pharaoh had sought to destroy. The enemy had tried to snatch away the destiny of a child, but God preserved the child and fulfilled His purpose through him.
And then we see Jesus. The dream of His coming to save the world immediately came under attack. After the wise men had departed, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said: “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” Matthew 2:13
Herod wanted to kill Jesus before He could fulfil His mission. But God protected Him, and no human scheme could prevent God’s purpose from being accomplished.
Every one of us is born with a dream and a destiny. God has purposes for our lives that He established even before we were born. But we must recognize there is an enemy who does not wish us to live and fullfill God’s destiny upon our lives. Therefore, ever, fight for your dream and destiny. Do not surrender to discouragement. Do not allow failure to convince you that God has abandoned you. Keep walking with God, remain faithful to His Word, and trust Him to protect and fulfil His purpose for your life.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Almighty God, You knew me before I was born, and You have a dream and destiny for my life. I thank You because my life is not an accident; it is part of Your divine purpose. Lord, I recognize that there may be forces that seek to hinder, frustrate, or destroy what You have ordained for me. I therefore look to You for protection, wisdom, strength, courage, and the grace to fight for my dream and destiny. May I never surrender to the enemy’s attempts to snatch away what You have placed in my heart. May I live to see the fulfilment of Your greatest promises concerning my life. In Jesus’ name I pray!
