God Hears Our Prayers

The angel of the Lord said to Zechariah, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard” (Luke 1:13).

Hannah carried a deep, aching longing for a child. In her distress, she poured out her heart to God. “In her deep anguish, Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, ‘Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me… and give me a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life’” (1 Samuel 1:10-11).
In due time, the Lord answered her cry. “So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, ‘Because I asked the Lord for him’” (1 Samuel 1:20).

Hannah’s story reveals a God who is intimately aware of our deepest needs and hears us when we call on Him. Even when it seems He is silent or distant, He is never indifferent. He is actively listening, and He answers in His perfect time.

Consider blind Bartimaeus, sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard Jesus was passing by, he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Though many tried to silence him, he refused to stop. Jesus heard his persistent cry, stopped, and asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” Bartimaeus replied, “Rabbi, I want to see.” Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road (Mark 10:46-52).

Some prayers are answered quickly, as with Bartimaeus. Others, like the Israelites’ cry for deliverance from Egypt, seem delayed for years. Yet God eventually declared, “I have heard their cries of distress… I am aware of their suffering” (Exodus 3:7). And there are times when God’s answer looks different from what we expected, because He sees the bigger picture and knows what is truly best for us.

Today, if you are carrying a heavy burden or a long-unanswered prayer, take heart. God is not far from your pain. He invites you to bring every need to Him. As Scripture assures us: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14).

Cast your cares upon Him. He hears. He cares. And He will answer — in His perfect way and in His perfect time.

Prayer: Lord Almighty, I come before You with confidence, knowing that You hear the prayers of Your children. I lay every burden, every longing, and every need at Your feet. Thank You that You are a God who sees, who listens, and who answers. Grant me patience and trust as I wait on Your perfect timing. I pray this in Jesus’ mighty name!
