“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

Before Rebekah left her family to become Isaac’s wife, her relatives gathered around her and spoke words of blessing over her life: “Our sister, may you increase to thousands upon thousands; may your offspring possess the gates of those who hate them” (Genesis 24:60). Those prophetic words would indeed come to pass. Rebekah became the mother of Jacob, through whose son Judah the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ, would eventually come.

Rebekah was not the only one to receive a blessing. Shortly before his death, Isaac blessed Jacob, saying, “May God give you heaven’s dew and earth’s richness—an abundance of grain and new wine. May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you…” (Genesis 27:28–29). God honoured that blessing. Jacob prospered greatly, so much so that “the man grew exceedingly prosperous and came to own large flocks, and female and male servants, and camels and donkeys” (Genesis 30:43).

Before his own death, Moses also blessed the tribes of Israel. Concerning Joseph, he declared: “May the LORD bless his land with the precious dew from heaven above and with the deep waters that lie below… with the best the sun brings forth and the finest the moon can yield” (Deuteronomy 33:13–15). In time, these tribes inherited the Promised Land and enjoyed the goodness God had prepared for them.

Throughout Scripture, we see that God’s heart is to bless His people. In contrast, Satan delights in stealing, destroying, and bringing suffering. When Job was blessed, Satan sought to strip him of everything. He challenged God, saying, “Stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face” (Job 2:4–5). Although Job temporarily lost his possessions, his children, and his health, Satan could not destroy God’s purpose for him. In the end, the Lord restored Job and blessed him with even more than he had before.

From the beginning, God revealed His desire to bless His children. He told Abraham, “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2). Later, Scripture records that “Abraham was now very old, and the LORD had blessed him in every way” (Genesis 24:1).

Today, if there is one truth you should never question, it is God’s desire to bless you. Walk confidently in that assurance. His blessings may not always come in the form or timing we expect, but His heart toward His children is always good. As He promised Israel, so His character remains: “The LORD your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands… For the LORD will again delight in you and make you prosperous” (Deuteronomy 30:9).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the assurance that I am Your blessed child. Help me to walk each day with confidence, knowing that Your plans for me are good and that no curse can overcome the blessings You have spoken over my life. May I remain faithful to You and become a blessing to others, just as You intended. This I pray in Jesus’ name!
