“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” - Mat 5:16 (NIV).

Darkness is something almost everyone dreads. If a house has been lighted up bright at night and then all of a sudden the lights go out due to power failure there is a certain gloom that takes over everyone. In fact, the moment lights return there is often a cheer that goes through the house. Light comes with relief and joy.

When there is darkness of course people grapple about in the dark. The wicked can also use that chance of not being seen to do the most hideous of things. Usually at the darkest time of the night is when the most evil deeds are carried out. The evil people hate light.

Those of us who know the Lord are privileged that we are children of the light. We walk in the light and not darkness. Wherever we go out we bring the joy of the light that comes through our faith in Christ. Yet because we are children of light does not mean we are always welcome. Darkness hates light. In some places we shall be forced out. But that is what it means to be children of light! Let us never hide the light of Jesus we carry wherever we go.

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray that I may take that light of the Gospel everywhere I go!
