“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21).

Have you ever felt so strongly about a decision that you pressed ahead despite every warning? Even when God made it clear you should wait, you chose to push forward because you were in a hurry. What happened next?

Consider the final missionary journey of the Apostle Paul. Arrested and being taken to Rome to stand trial before Caesar, Paul received a clear premonition from God about the voyage. He warned the centurion, the ship’s owner, and the captain of the danger ahead: “Men, I can see that our voyage is going to be disastrous and bring great loss to ship and cargo, and to our own lives also” (Acts 27:10).

They ignored the warning. Concerned about deadlines and potential losses from delay, they sailed anyway. Soon a violent storm—the Northeaster—struck the ship. The vessel was driven off course and eventually ran aground (Acts 27:14–15, 41). All lives were spared, but not without significant damage and loss. When the storm finally calmed, Paul reminded them:
“Men, you should have taken my advice not to sail from Crete; then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss” (Acts 27:21).

Sometimes the wisest course is simply to wait on God. Whether it is relocating, launching a new venture, or stepping into a new season of life, the urge to rush can be strong. Yet when God says “wait,” pressing ahead often exacts a high price. Remember,”But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

Reflection: Do I commit all my plans to God and wait on Him, even when I feel hurried?

Prayer for today: Lord Father Almost God, in all my affairs teach me to ever wait on You. For when I go with You, I know victory will come. This I pray in Jesus’ name!
