“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

There are some things which are certain as a matter of fact in life. One of these is the inevitability of storms. A storm is described as a “disturbed state of an environment, affecting the earth’s atmosphere.” Storms tend to cause disruptions of what was a normal and rather calm condition before. Storms can come as strong winds, tornadoes, hail, thunder and lighting. Few people, if there are any, relish storms. One always wishes for a storm to quickly pass.

But every storm that comes soon passes. No storm lasts forever. This is why God reminds us, “Do not let your hearts be troubled..” (John 14:1)

If there are storms affecting our family life; personal relations; finances…storms of whatever kind, they will all cease. Storms come and go!

When a storm is passing it can be so terrifying that it is easy to lose hope. From the scriptures we know that once when at sea a storm came and started tossing the boat where Jesus lay asleep. Inside were disciples who were so terrified that they started to panic. But once they turned to Jesus, he rebuked them, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm” (Mat 8:26).

So, likewise, whatever storm you are passing through, stay calm by looking up to Jesus. For He has said, “and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me” (Psalm 50:15)

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, for all the storms around me, I look up to you, remembering your words, “Be still and know that I am God”; and so I know this storm will pass, and I will live to give you praise evermore, this I pray in Jesus’ name!
