“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken” (Psalm 62:5–6).

Almost everyone loves the sight of a beach or simply being there. Beaches attract people from all walks of life to relax, play, and enjoy themselves while occasionally dipping into the cool water for a swim or a splash. On a beautiful day, smiling faces are scattered across the shore, perhaps enjoying a picnic while watching waves roll from afar onto the sandy beach.

Yet those waves that crash upon the shore often begin far away. In many cases, they are born out of a storm. Somewhere in the middle of a vast sea or lake, fierce winds stir the waters into powerful waves that surge forward with great force. No one would wish to be caught in the middle of such a storm, for those waves can be destructive and dangerous, tossing everything in their path with terrifying power.

But eventually, those same waves reach the shore and surrender into calmness and rest.

Life can sometimes feel like standing in the middle of a raging storm, with violent waves threatening to sweep everything away. Challenges, disappointments, sickness, loss, or uncertainty may rise against us with overwhelming force. Yet when we take refuge in the Lord, we can rest in the assurance that every storm has an end. In time, it will subside and pass away. Like a mighty wave that eventually collapses upon the shore, the storm will lose its power to destroy.

As King David declared: “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters” (Psalm 23:1–2).

The storm will be over.

Prayer Today: Lord God of Abraham, Maker of heaven and earth, whatever storm I may be facing, I choose to rest in You, knowing that it will eventually come to an end by Your mighty power. Calm every fear within me and lead me beside Your quiet waters. This I pray in Jesus’ name!
