“Two is better than one because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down one can help the other up” - Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV).

The Bible has many beautiful stories of team couples who worked together to build the kingdom. Of course one has to start with Joseph and Mary a humble couple who raised Jesus till he began his public ministry (Mathew 1). There is Abraham and Sarah who traveled together through the desert and had a son, Isaac, late in life (Gen 21). Elkanah and Hannah gave up the son they also had late in life to the Lord’s service (I Sam 1: 23- 28).

One of the most amazing couple that we can’t fail to take notice is Aquila and Priscila. The Apostle Paul met them in Corinth. “There he met a Jew, named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy, along with his wife, Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome” ( Corinth 18: 2). They hosted the lifelong bachelor and worked together with him as tent makers, providing Paul the support of a home he needed in his traveling ministry.

This couple’s ministry was also extended to Appolo, a renowned teacher who in spite of his rich knowledge had no idea of Jesus. “When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately” (verse 26).

The Apostle Paul considered them as lifelong partners and kept referring to them in his letters. “Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co- workers in Christ Jesus” (Rom 16:3). Later he also wrote to Timothy and asked him, “Greet Priscila and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus” (2 Tim 4:19).

This couple reminds us how God can bring together two individuals for a purpose. The partnership of these couples was all used by God to grow his kingdom, as should any.

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray in the precious name of Jesus, to know and use the power of partnership for the growth of your kingdom.
