“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your body will be full of darkness” - Mat 6:22-23 ( ESV)

The Late Ronald Mengi, a Tanzanian multimillionaire once told the story of getting to his factory. He had been out jogging and was dressed in track suits. The gate keeper threw one glance at him, then ordered him to show his back. When Mengi tried to plea that he was actually the factory owner, the gate keeper repulsed him. “Mengi is always dressed in suits and never like that!” said he, barring his entrance.

Gate keepers may appear far down in organization structure but can be that powerful. They determine what goes in and out on any day. In many institutions where there is fraud often a gate keeper has let in the bad guys to come in and do havoc.

In life we also have gate keepers. These are our ears. As believers we have always a choice to choose what we hear. Some things when we hear can come in like an enemy, crush and destroy our spirit life. It could be the music we hear or little poisonous talk.

The eyes are also gatekeepers. In this day of social media what we see and dwell on through endless sensational posts maybe not inspiring. Watching pornography and rated movies is of course a trap one must close his eyes to for its known corrosive effect.

Let our ears and eyes be guarded as gate keepers, ensuring they let in only that that which is good and nourishing to our spirit.

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray in the mighty name of Jesus that I ever keep watch of what I hear and see, to protect my spirit from the enemy’s poison.
