The power of a confidant!

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” ( Proverbs 17:7)

A confidant is someone you can go to and unburden yourself without feeling guilty. Everyone needs such a person. Most importantly when dealing with a complicated life situation and you need both ear and voice for encouragement and counsel.

The relationship of David and Jonathan throws some light on the need and some of the qualities that can define a confidant. Having met Jonathan at a precarious time where his life was threatened, David had the good fortune of finding a loyal confidant. So much so that once King Saul had decided on executing him, his friend came through. “Saul told his son Jonathan and his officers to kill David. But Jonathan liked David very much, so he warned him. “Be careful! Saul is looking for a chance to kill you. In the morning go into the field and hide. I will go out into the field with my father. We will stand in the field where you are hiding. I will talk to my father about you, and I will tell you what I learn” ( I Samuel 19:1-3).

Jonathan illustrates some of the qualities important in a confidant. The fact that Jonathan was aware of David’s situation, but never misused this privileged information, reveals what a true confidant is!

We all need a confidant, someone we can share with a very personal matter and yet not be suspicious of being betrayed. A good confidant can shore up our faith particularly through challenging times. May we be as good as the Lord blesses us with such.

Prayer for today: Almighty God, Father of Abraham, today I pray for such a confidant in my life to help me in my faith walk, to glorify, this I pray in Jesus’s name
