The Lord goes before you!

"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged" ( Deuteronomy 31:8).

Scouts are an important element of any military battle. There main role is to go ahead of the force by scouting to sport enemy formations and battle strength. Moses knew of their usefulness and so agreed with God. "The Lord said to Moses, “Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders" ( Numbers 13:1-2). But of the 12 scouts only two, Joshua and Caleb, after sporting the enemy ahead dared believe they could take him on! “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are "( vv 31-32).

The problem of these other ten terrified scouts was to fail to appreciate the fact that in all our battles God goes before us. Believers will find themselves up before many seemingly impenetrable enemy formations. This might be at the workplace where the "accuser of the brethren" lobbies false charges against any. At times it is simply when traveling and there is danger along the highway. Just as God comforted Joshua through his servant Moses, one should not fear, "for the Lord goes before you!"

Scouts are useful because they give you a glimpse of the actual strength of the enemy. But sometimes the enemy would be so concealed that it is difficult to figure him out completely. Then also the sight of the enemy might too terrifying as was the case with the 10 spies sent by Moses. However, the one who trust in God and knows He goes ahead of him, should not worry. "For LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still" ( Exodus 14:14).

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, for all the battles arraigned against me, I pray you go ahead of me, just as you promised your servant Joshua, to claim victory, this I pray in Jesus's name.
