“He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord” – Psalm 40:3 (NIV)

When King David wrote, “May all who want to take my life be put to shame and confusion” (Psalm 40:14), any can agree he had been pushed to the wall. It is probably when he was being persecuted by Saul or after being overthrow by his son, Absalom, from the throne. Further down he writes, “For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within” (vv 12).

Have you ever gone through a situation that leaves you besides your self. For David, in spite of being on the run, his life on the edge, there was an unshakable faith in God. “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand” (vv 2).

Knocked from all side David had unshakable faith in God well reflected as he wrote, “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods” (vv4).

As the life of David shows Christians are not immune to trials. In those moments of difficulty there could be the urge to seek all available alternative solutions to arrest the situation. The faith of David who sunk to the depth should always be a source of inspiration. As he was down, may his faith be our prayer too: “But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; you are my God, do not delay (vv 17).

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, whatever the circumstances I am faced with, I rise and put my faith in you, for you put a song of deliverance in my heart of deliverance, this I pray in Jesus’s name.
