Thank God for victory
"Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever" ( Psalm 106:1).
The year we are just about to close may have had a lot of distressing situations and perhaps moments of helplessness. For example, there could have been that time when your health hit the bottom and the doctors diagnosis was not encouraging either. Perhaps there was that time too when you lost your job, a juicy contract or means to secure you a steady income and wondered where the next pay slip would come from! You might have had a child who started abusing alcohol and drugs, dropped out of school and you were left weary. Your marriage might have gone through a rough patch and you and your partner felt it was all over. Maybe there was that court case where you faced your false accusers naked and alone before a clearly bribed system. Perhaps it was a motor accident you scraped from but which left you nursing long wounds.
There could have been other tests and the list of narrow escape is too long to share. You have been through a lot!
When Christ was leaving his disciples he noted to them, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" ( John 17:33). There are reasons why children of God do experience trials like the type you may have gone through. We live in a fallen world caused by the sin of Adam. "Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return" ( Gen 3:17). This should never escape our attention that paradise is not here. And then as believers we are constantly under attack of a thief, Satan, who comes to "kill and destroy" ( John 10:10).
Trials though, challenging as they may be, bring us closer to God who has promised us victory. In spite of them they make us depend absolutely on God. This is why the Lord is telling us, "be of good cheer"!
So, as this year ends, look back at all those narrow escapes, where the enemy wanted to take you out, but God saw you through. That you are here is testimony of the marvellous work of God in your life and how as the year closes you should drop all and give praise to him.
Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, I thank you for all the trials and tests I have gone through in this year, and how you have delivered me, for your glory, this I pray in Jesus's name.
