Surrender to God!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths”- Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

Abraham and Lot were related; both with time became very wealthy. "Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. But the land could not support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together" ( Genesis 13:5-6). Before long their herdsmen were bitterly qurrreling over pasture land.

Look at what happened then. God gave Abraham wisdom that rather than tussle it out with his relative he should give him as much as he wished. "Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left..So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east" ( vv 9-11).

By releasing what he could have intensely held on, it appeared though as if Abraham had made a huge loss. But see what happened. "The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west.  All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted" ( vv 14-16).

Liked Abraham you too could find yourself in a situation where you are being drawn into an ugly war that is eating you all up. While there are some battles God will not have us yield an inch; others He would have us give and surrender all to God. When Abraham released his share to Lot a far greater blessing unfolded in his life, as certainly could be for any who trusts in God.

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, rather than holding on to my rights I choose to surrender all to you the giver of life, for I know you will bless me mightily, this I pray in Jesus's name.
