Strength from the wilderness
"You dear children are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” – (1 John 4:4).
There are two Moses: one inexperienced and eager to serve God of which he got a beating. The second Moses is a humbled one and who had tasted of God’s power. Once chased out of Egypt this renewed Moses, stepped up and faced Ramses, the pharaoh, and his old nemesis. He calmly asked, “Let my people go” (Exodus 5:1). Prior he had run off when it became known he had killed an Egyptian to save the life of a Jew (Exodus 2: 11-25). He had not lingered to see if his God could fight back for him. Moses was terrified of the power of the enemy.
Far off in exile he must have reflected on the power of the God he believed in against that of his enemies. Who was more powerful? It is seems God used to speak to him in his quiet spirit as he herded sheep. Finally God would reveal himself to him one day in a bush fire and tell him to go back and free the Jews under captivity (Exodus 3).
It was a different Moses then who once faced Ramses and left in a hurry. He wasn’t afraid as before. The times of wilderness had built his faith. He knew his God was greater than all other gods of Pharaohs and wasn’t as afraid anymore!
Perhaps like Moses you have been through the wilderness and are wondering why. For Moses the wilderness turned him into a lion for God. May this be your experience too! Abd victory is on the way.
Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, through the wilderness you have made stronger and ever reliant on you, and this gives me courage to face today knowing I am victorious , all this I pray in Jesus’s name.
