"Praise be to the Lord the God of Master Abraham who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my Master” - Gen 24: 26 (NIV)

As Abraham aged he worried for his son Isaac whom he wished to see marry well. He did not want him marry among the Canaanites. So he sent out his chief servant to look up a wife among his relatives. However, before he proceeded the servant prayed that the God of Abraham may go before him. “O Lord, God of my master Abraham give me success today and show kindness to my master Abraham” (Genesis 24:17).

Then in confidence he set out. The girl he met at the well, Rebekah, turned out to be the very wife intended for Isaac. And she went back with him.

This example should impress on us the power of praying for any tasks or expectations ahead of us. The chief servant was well aware that for such an important job he needed God’s blessing. So he cried out to God. How about you and I when we set out on any journey or for that big job God might have for us! Let us begin the day in prayer.

Prayer for today: Lord Father I pray that for whatever task you have for me you go ahead of me just as you led the prophets!
