“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own” - I Cor 6:19 (NIV)

Every one of us has those things we revere so much. I am aware of car fanatics who would not allow one dark spot to linger on their beloved cars for a moment. For others it is their pieces of land - any attempted encroachment would raise a storm. In our cupboards is always some china ever reserved for special guests.

But how about our bodies. Aren’t they treasures to handle with due care! Certainly as we eat and drink we are making sure our bodies have the energy we need to go about life. We take time to clean them so as to appear attractive and pleasing.

But just as that is good we can also bruise our bodies through the things we do to them. Take the example of obsessive consumption of alcohol; we all do know the damage it does to our organs. Or it could be engaging in acts of sexual immorality. At that point we are abusing our bodies with possible invasion of STDs.

If we can take care of the things we revere then how about our bodies. Our bodies are a treasure- for there are a gift from God. Let us treat them with honor and reverence to serve the purpose designed for them. If we go about treating our bodies shabbily, soon they wilt, and no matter our intentions we then limit our being effective for God!

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray that you constantly help me know that my body is a gift from you to treat gently for your purpose.
