“But Lot’s wife looked back and she became a pillar of salt” - Genesis, 19:6 (NIV)

Haven’t you ever come across someone always talking of the good old days! Everything back then looks so rosy. Of course so often the past looks so good, that we so often wish we could go back and enjoy its comfort.

Actually it’s common to hear politicians world over moan how times have changed so bad that there are going to bring the good old days back. As individuals the past can seem so romantic especially that part where we lived under the care of our loving parents. Removed from that time it sort of looks like life then had no serious issues.

To look back at the past can of course be helpful especially where the motive is to pick up useful lesson as to inspire us. But then it can also become a stumbling block where we dwell so much on the past that we lose sense of the future. In that instance we do become prisoners of our past.

If we are to look back at the past let it be to motivate us forward. Otherwise we live for the future. This is why the Apostle Paul says, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:14, NIV). Let’s look to the bright future.

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray in the mighty name of Jesus of Nazareth that I always look forward to a great future ahead because of faith in you.
