Live with a Purpose!

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11, ESV).

One of the best-selling Christian books of all time is The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, founder of Saddleback Church in the United States. The book, which has sold millions of copies and been translated into many languages, opens with the thought-provoking question: “What on earth am I here for?” The author explains that we were created for God’s pleasure, formed for God’s family, created to become like Christ, shaped to serve God, and made for a mission. It is a life-changing book that has helped many people discover a greater and more fulfilling purpose beyond ordinary living.

If there is one life that perfectly demonstrated purpose, it is the life of the Lord Jesus Christ. Compared to the average lifespan of seventy years, Christ’s thirty-three years on earth may seem brief, yet His impact surpasses that of almost anyone else in history. Because He understood that His life was meant to bring pleasure to God, Jesus began His days in prayer and fellowship with the Father (Mark 1:35). Strengthened and guided by God, He faithfully fulfilled His calling of preaching, teaching, and revealing the kingdom of God.

One defining mark of a person who has discovered their purpose is clarity of priority. Because Jesus understood His mission, He knew where to invest His time and energy. Though He faced many distractions and opportunities to drift away from His calling, He remained focused on what truly mattered.

Today, take a moment to ask yourself: “Why am I here on earth?” Psalm 139:13–14 says: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” And Jeremiah 1:5 declares: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” Once you understand that you are not an ordinary creation merely passing through life, you will begin to pursue your God-given purpose and prioritize your choices as Christ did.

Prayer for today:
Lord God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, today I thank You for creating me with purpose and intention. Help me to understand Your will for my life and to prioritize the things that honor and please You. Guide my steps, strengthen my faith, and make me effective in serving You. In Jesus’ name I pray!
