“I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds” - Psalms 9:1 (NIV).

Being thankful is one of those things we all need to be ever reminded. A case is given of Jesus on his way to Jerusalem when he met ten lepers. “They stood out at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” (Luke 17:12-13). The Lord answered their prayers. “When he saw them, he said, “Go show yourselves to the priests. And as they went they were cleansed” (verse 14).

This story takes on an interesting twist though when after that miraculous event only one leper remembers to return and thank Jesus. “One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back praising God, in a loud voice” (verse 15). And Jesus indeed took note of that. “Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are all the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner? Then he said to him, “Rise and go, your faith has made you well” (verse 17-19).

Everyone has something to be grateful to from God. There is the life we have. All of our lives are filled with multiple blessings. But so often preoccupied with self we focus on God meeting our pressing demands. And if our prayers are not met or once they are, we, like the ten leper’s move on until we return to lodge another hurried request.

May we not be found in that error of the nine lepers and miss out on even greater blessings.

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray in the precious name of Jesus, to have a thankful spirit.
