“One of those day’s Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the whole night praying to God” - Luke 6:12 (NIV).

With all the destructions in our lives any Christian can truthfully admit experiencing dry moments of prayer less ness. The spirit and urge to pray might be gone altogether. In fact, in some cases one might even doubt if prayer works especially where one has experienced some unanswered requests.

If ever in doubt of the power of prayer perhaps one could pause and look up to Jesus. The son of God never for once discounted prayer. “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place where he prayed” (Mark 1:35). Jesus prayed before His baptism with Holy Spirit and start of public ministry. “And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove“ (Luke 3:22). Jesus prayed before his sacrificial death. “Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray” (Mat 26:36). And many more references.

So, next time you feel like giving up on prayer because of some consuming distractions or even thought that prayer doesn’t work, just remember the Lord Jesus Himself was a man of prayer.

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, today I pray in the blessed name of Jesus that with the power of the Holy Spirit you help me be a person of prayer.
