“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day”— 2 Peter 3:8

Have you ever felt you were simply out of time? That the thing you longed for had slipped beyond reach? That quiet thought—“It’s too late”—is likely what passed through Martha and Mary when their brother Lazarus died. He had been sick for some time, and when Jesus heard the news, He did not rush to his side. Scripture tells us, “So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days” (John 11:6). By the time Jesus finally arrived, Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days (John 11:17).

Yet Martha’s faith remained steady. “Lord,” she said, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask” (John 11:21–22). Mary, who had stayed in the house, came out when she heard Jesus had arrived, fell at His feet, and echoed the same grief: “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died” (John 11:32).

But it was not too late. Jesus replied, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” (John 11:40). Then He called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” and instructed those nearby, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go” (John 11:43–44).

Perhaps you, too, carry something that has been ailing for a long season—something that now looks, by every natural measure, dead. The dream of a child. The hope of a restored job or relationship. Whatever it is, the Lord’s challenge still stands: if you believe, it is not too late. Raising a man who had been dead four days defied every expectation and even invited laughter. Yet the Lord did it. What situation in your life is beyond His power to restore?

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of heaven, You who raised Lazarus from the dead even after four days in the tomb, I bring to You every area of my life that appears lifeless. Restore what seems gone. Nothing is too late with You. I ask this in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, and by the faith I place in Him. Amen.
