“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Prov 4:23)

As one drives through certain affluent neighborhoods one unmistakable fixture is the gate. Almost every enclosure has a gate meant to ward off intruders with ill intentions. Guarding residences is some serious business. In fact, in some organizations one of the perks that comes along is 24/7 security to provide guard services for senior officers while at home!

The world all over stresses the point of guarding what belongs to it. The world knows that left unchecked there is a looter out there who needs no prompting. Once he sees a narrow opening he will leave nothing to chance. In such circumstances one cannot do without a guard.

So how about a believer guarding also entry to what can enter his mind and bring ruin. One of those points of entry in a believer’s life are the eyes. As one’s eyes meander so one can be filled with all kinds of imaginations some of which are ruinous. Take for example dwelling on porn sights. Left unchecked it fosters ruin.

Just as the world is so intent on guarding what belongs to it; let us too, always be on the guard, for we have a truly precious possession worthy to bring to our defense. Our life in Christ.

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray that I may always guard entry to my heart with your rich thoughts through the words of life from the Holy Bible.
