"For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it;
For it will certainly come, it will not delay" ( Habbakuk 2:3).

In the workings of God, timing is everything. When the prophet Isaiah prophesied, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" ( Isaiah 9:6), it would take 700 years for this prophecy to be fulfilled. Moses had to wait for 40 years in the wilderness for his desire to liberate the Israelites to be realised. And also, "Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him" ( Genesis 21:2). Abraham was by then 100 years!

God is never delayed. While from a human angle it would seem the time is too long yet, "With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day" ( 2 Peter 3:8). In all these and other periods of waiting there is a purpose.

So often we can be troubled that a matter one puts before God has delayed! From a human angle it looks too long and one may think abandoned. But just as we see in these cases and numerous others, the workings of God are different from man. God’s ways are not our ways!

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, as you are a God of time, may you make me learn to wait on you, for in due seasons your will shall come to pass, this I pray in Jesus' name.
