“My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” — Psalm 121:2

Help is defined as providing assistance, support, or relief to someone, or making a task easier. While some people may view receiving help as a sign of weakness, everyone needs help from time to time. We may not always have all the resources, wisdom, or strength we need, but God is able to provide assistance through His power and through the people He places around us.

When Moses was called to speak to Pharaoh and lead the Israelites out of bondage, he became aware of his limitation in speech and protested. God responded by saying: “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you. You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him” (Exodus 4:14–16). God helped Moses by sending Aaron to assist him in an area where he felt inadequate.

Another example is found during Israel’s battle against the Amalekites. Moses was required to keep his hands raised in prayer as the battle continued. When his hands grew tired, Aaron and Hur supported him: “When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset” (Exodus 17:12.). Through the help of Aaron and Hur, Moses was strengthened, and Israel secured victory.

The early church also experienced God’s help in miraculous ways. When Peter was imprisoned and facing execution, God sent an angel to rescue him: “Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. ‘Quick, get up!’ he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists” (Acts 12:7). Likewise, after Saul’s conversion, the Jews plotted to kill him, but God provided help through fellow believers: “But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall” (Acts 9:25).

God is always ready to help those who come to Him in faith. He invites us into a relationship with Him and assures us of His presence: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20). All we need to do is come to Him in faith, bringing our needs and burdens before Him. As the psalmist declares: “As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!” (Psalm 40:17).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are my helper in times of need. Today, I come before You acknowledging my limitations and Your power to help me through every situation according to Your will. Strengthen me where I am weak, guide me where I am uncertain, and provide the help I need in every area of my life. May all the glory belong to You alone. I pray this in Jesus’ name!
