"You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you" - Psalm 86:5 (NIV). 

If you ever happen to be walking under some light sunshine you may chance upon your shadow. Something about shadows is that they keep shifting, as you move about. In fact, you might say shadows are mostly dancing, with varying patterns. A shadow cannot be fixed, for the moment you make a light move, it changes pattern and place.

Those are shadows. When it comes to God one thing any can be assured of is that our God unlike shadows is unchanging. A particular characteristic of God is love. I John 4:16 says, "And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love.."! The love of God for us in unchanging, like shadows. It's a constant light showered upon us, and not dependent on our movements.

The story of the prodigal son highlights the love of God. Here was a lad who abandoned his father's stead and went out to waste himself in indolence. The father could have shut the door on him forever. It was not the case. For once his senses returned and he decided to go back to his father, "while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him" (Matthew 5:20).

Today, no matter where you are, you can walk in the assurance of that love of God. It is not a conditional scratch my back love. It is a love based on God 's unchanging nature of love and goodness.

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, I thank you for your love which is unchanging and blesses me with your goodness, this I pray in Jesus's name.
