Free in Christ!

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” – John 8:36

Many pagan cultures across the world have practiced strange and fearful customs for generations. In parts of Africa, some rituals have involved cutting the body to ward off curses, while others have gone as far as child sacrifice in pursuit of blessings. In Buganda, the birth of twins traditionally involved elaborate rituals intended to appease ancestral spirits. In some places, funeral ceremonies may even involve close contact with corpses, practices that can expose people to dangerous contagious diseases.

One of the greatest blessings that comes through the Gospel of Jesus Christ is freedom from such bondage and fear. Romans 6:18 declares, “Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living!” Likewise, Galatians 5:1 reminds us: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

Where people were once chained by fear, superstition, and oppressive traditions, Christ has brought true freedom. It is therefore unfortunate that some, either through ignorance or stubbornness, return to practices from which the Gospel had already delivered them. In certain places, such customs are even romanticized, with people being told they cannot prosper or move forward unless they participate in them. Such beliefs deny believers the freedom and liberty that Christ freely offers to all who trust in Him.

Prayer Today:
Lord God of Abraham, thank You for delivering me from every practice that seeks to rob me of the freedom found in You. Help me to walk boldly in the liberty and grace that come through knowing Christ. Strengthen my faith so that I may stand firm and never return to any form of bondage. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
