“Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name” - Psalm 103:1 (NIV)

It is estimated that a human body can go as far as 8-21 days without food and water. Anywhere after that with the body deprived of any sources of energy one can easily starve to death. Eating well is fundamental to good health and well-being. A medical writer has pointed out, “Healthy eating helps us to maintain a healthy weight and reduces our risk of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and some cancers.” When we eat well we sleep better, have more energy and better concentration – and this all adds up to healthier, happier lives!

Man does not consist of only the body. Man is a triune being because he is created in the image of God. “God said, Let us make man in Our image” (Gen 1:26). In that order our lives are composed of spirit, soul, and body. This is why the Apostle Paul prays, “I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (I Thessalonians 5:23).

If we need to feed the body with food to function, then how about the spirit? That question has long been answered. “After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Mathew 4: 2-4).

Just as we need food to nourish the body; the spirit needs the word of God to stay alive. Besides, we must also worship God in Spirit and in Truth. “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth” (John 4:24).

Prayer for today: Lord Father God in heaven just as my body needs food for proper nourishment today I pray to feed my spirit with your rich word and praise!
