Faith over trials

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" ( Romans 8:28)

When a trader loses a cargo he has heavily invested in, probably from theft along the highway, he can be so crushed to a point of feeling so hopeless about life. Maybe all his investment was tied up in that cargo and here he is now at a the very bottom. Perhaps he might even loose all hope in a Good God out there caring for him. How can he rise above such a setback!

Although we know David was guilty of taking the wife of another man, Beersheba, and conceiving with her a child, after he was told for his sin the child would die, he nonetheless prayed with all of his being. "David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth on the ground" ( 2 Samuel 12:16). However, for all his long prayers the child died. What happened thereafter is illustrative of how one can handle a crushing defeat. Upon learning that inspite of all his prayers the child had died, "David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped" ( vv 20).

Maybe you too have a matter you have invested so deeply in. You might have prayed day and night but nothing seemed to yield fruit. From David we see that even when negative news greet us, against all our prayers and hopes, we should find the courage to rise and praise God. And God would have us smile in the end!

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, today I pray with all my being for this situation knowing that with you there is always victory, and my faith in you won't be shaken, for you take the glory, this I pray in Jesus's name.
