“The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time”- Psalm 34:19

There can be a mistaken perception that Believers are immune to troubles.  On the contrary, troubles are much common to God’s children, except that they have a deliverer. King David was a man after God’s heart ( 1 Samuel 13:14), but he faced many troubles, from being persecuted by King Saul, losing a child, to being overthrown by his son in a palace coup.

As Psalm 18:2 says, “The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Believers know that God delivers them from the troubles they face.

It s God who delivered Abraham and Sarah to have a child in their old age (Genesis 21:1-7). When the Israelites where stuck in the Red Sea and pinned down by an invading army, God parted the sea and let them cross to dry land (Exodus 14). After the prayers of the saints, the Lord sent an angel to free the Apostle Peter who had been held in prison (Acts 12:1-19).

Sometimes God uses the troubles which Believers faces to bring them closer to Him. The Apostle Paul says, “ And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them” ( Romans 8:28). Often so, God uses the troubles brought on to us by Satan to make us more like Him ( Romans 8:29. In fact, for Believers, the fact is, “our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs all” (11 Corinthians 4:17).

If we are not delivered here, Believers know that God delivers us from all our troubles in the next life. Sometimes we see the sick die even after much prayer. Believers are persecuted in godless nations and lose jobs for standing up for Christ in secular societies. But if believers do not see breakthrough in this life, they will see deliverance in the next life (Revelation 21:4).

Today, if you are facing any trouble, take heart, that the Lord the deliverer, will not fail, but deliver you from all!

Prayer for today; Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, you are my rock and deliverer, so today I pray that you deliver me from any trouble I face, because of the faith in Christ Jesus!

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” ( Isaiah 43:19).

Just before fire was unleashed down on Sodom and Gommorah, Lot was told to pack up with his wife and two daughters and leave their homestead. Now, once out of danger, “But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt” ( Gen 19:26). Perhaps here we might pause and ask why she was bothered to look back.

Of course it could have been that old “curiosity killed a cat” mistake! Yet, it could also have been Lot’s wife was not sure where she was going and longed for her old life back. This is a common error. There was nothing stirring to look back. Just before Lot’s neighbors had attacked his house eager to rape his visitors. “They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them” ( vv 5). Was there anything worth looking back to!

The case of Lot’s wife could be anyone else’s experience. The Lord has plucked you out of some mess. You have been delivered to a new life. Yet, somehow you decide to look back, as though there was anything good and worth longing for. Sometimes it is a bitter past you have been delivered from. Other than rejoice in your new blessings you keep being drawn back!

A wise caution goes, “As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly” ( Proverbs 26:11). If the Lord has just led you out of a certain mess why look back like it was much better! Instead look ahead, for “he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick: Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past” ( vv 17- 18).

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, I thank you for delivering me from the darkness of the past and I look forward to a bright new future in you, this I pray in Jesus’ name!
