“What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul” (Mark 8:36)

Today it is so easy to come across anyone who says that there are believers because they were born into a Christian family. As such they carry along a Christian name and you guess it go to church as often, especially to observe the Christian calendar like appearing for Ash Wednesday! In the battles between Moslems and Christians they know their side and are so eager to defend the Christian warriors cause. They are eager to observe all the Christian rituals- from infant baptism to church marriages and funerals.

However, when it comes to a personal relationship with Christ there is none whatsoever. In fact, anything like challenging one to walk closely with the Lord through a life of prayer and repentance would be stoutly opposed. Eager to wear the Christian banner, it is a different matter to obeying the commands of Christ like forgiving one another.

To be a Christian is more than waving the flag with the emblem of the cross as used to be during the crusades. To be a follower of Christ means taking up the cross, being identified with Christ and looking at everything through the lenses of Christ. It is a radically transformed life because the “old has passed and the new has come!”

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven today I pray that I practice a living faith and not wear a Christian flag for the sake.
