“Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me” ( Isaiah 49:6)
If you happen to be at a lake beach any would notice all the sand particles, an infinite amount scattered all over. For any trying to buid a sand castle you might start valuing each particle, for that’s what makes up the whole. Sometimes on certain clear nights the sky is woven with a carpet of shining stars that leave one awed. Maybe moved you would wish to know each by name!
Quite amazing but the reality is when God looks down on earth we might at first appear like those sand particles or stars littering the skies, in their infinite spread. The humbling part is God knows each one of us individually, regardless. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” And Psalm 139:1-4 says, “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely”!
It’s an awesome feeling, perhaps impossible to grasp for us, but each one of us counts with God, regardless of the billions who dwell here on the planet. When any of us comes to Him God receives us warmly by name: “Listen to me, O coastlands, and give attention, you peoples from afar. The Lord called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name” ( Isaiah 49:1). You are not just another sand particle or a star flashing out on a starry night but one whom God has chosen out of many for a purpose. For He says, “Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might and because he is strong in power, not one is missing” ( Isaiah 40:26). You are a special child!
Today’s prayer: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, what an awesome feeling to know that you know me by name and that when I come to you I am received as your beloved child all which fuels me to love and serve you ever more, this I pray in Jesus’s name!
