“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” - John 14:27 (NIV)

Any child of God can wonder if the situation there are about to take on is the will God! What are the signs that the matter is really of God? Sometimes one way is to check if you are at peace. For example, there was one lady who found herself enlisted in a certain new church where every appearance this all seemed a good church in line with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The teachings and praise all seemed all right, as she had known. However, there was something unsettling in her spirit. “I was never at peace while going there.” It later proved to be a cult.

We have of course the gentle Word to guide us. There are also elders in faith who can counsel. But then also the Holy Spirit whom the Lord left us to guide us into all truth. “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God (Romans 8:16).

Let’s say you are about to commit to a huge financial investment. And you have all the money. A good last minute check. Do you have that inner peace?

Peace from the Holy Spirit is one of those signs the Lord has left us to know if something we are about to take on is of God. “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.. (John 14: 16-17)

If you have no peace and continue to be restless and much bothered, that could be a clear sign from the Holy Spirit that the matter you are about to be involved in is not of God. “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful” (Col 3:15).

Prayer for today: Lord Father God, you have left and given us your Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and today I pray that He gives me peace and inner assurance in every matter I am to take on that I may be filled with your gentle peace, that surpasses all understanding for that which is of you, this I pray in the blessed name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth!
