“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ” - Col 3:23-24 (NIV)
When we look at the universe there is no doubt that there was a God of excellence behind it all. The universe is a majestic wonder with all the galaxies artfully laid out. On any night one can step out to see the stars laid out in a carpet and who cannot not help but note what a fine work of art we are blessed with. Our bodies are also a marvel with all the organs working in symphonic harmony.
Of course we have all seen humans also attempting their own works of art. But none can approach the beauty of the hand of God. Not it’s dexterity. Not it’s precise perfection. Not in its purity.
Since ours is a God of excellence and we are but his workmanship shouldn’t we also aspire for excellence in everything we do, just as well! If Christians do things sloppily, are they not failing God?
Years ago I had a headmaster. He always stressed before us a motto: “only the best is good enough!” Many students from that school have gone on to excel in their different professions. When as believers we excel in whatever we do we are reflecting the face and handiwork of God in our lives.
Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray that in everything I do you help me I aspire for excellence so as to reveal your true nature.
