“And walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” - Ephesians 5:2 (NIV)

Soon after cases of COVID-19 started piling up a number of leaders of states offered to take a pay cut and offer the proceeds to the task force of their respective countries fighting the corona virus. Likewise several business organizations moved ahead and donated in cash and kind towards government efforts.

This was indeed commendable. So often our leaders are always demanding for more benefits and perks but in this case there was an exception. For companies already struggling many expected government support to enable them to stabilize. That a number chose to cast aside their concerns and rather contribute to a fund to help the venerable was certainly noble.

Actually what they were doing is what would ordinarily be expected of any Christ follower. On so many occasions believers are pre-occupied with pleading to God to meet their personal needs. So often we are only thirsting for more and thinking less of taking care of the needs of those around in our community.

Yet the Gospel of Christ demands that we not only trust that our Father will meet our needs, but we are equally challenged to take personal sacrifices and look after the needs of the less fortunate as one way to show Christ’s sacrificial love for us! This indeed could be one way to lead someone to Christ!

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, that even in lean times I take sacrifices to show your abundant love.
