God Is Faithful
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” — Hebrews 10:23
When the angel Gabriel appeared to Joseph and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20), Joseph faced a difficult choice. He could have quietly divorced Mary and walked away from the situation. Yet because he was a faithful and righteous man, “he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife” (Matthew 1:24). In the end, Joseph’s faithfulness was greatly rewarded, for he was entrusted with the responsibility of raising Jesus, the Savior of mankind.
Faithfulness is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and a mark of spiritual maturity. It reflects the very character of God, for our God is faithful. While human beings often change their minds and fail to keep their promises, God’s faithfulness is eternal and unchanging. As Scripture declares, “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19).
The Bible is filled with examples of God’s faithfulness. He remained faithful to His promise by sending the Messiah for the salvation of humanity. “But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman” (Galatians 4:4). Likewise, when Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land, God’s faithfulness was evident. Scripture records: “The Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there… Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled” (Joshua 21:43–45).
As children of God, we find great comfort in knowing that we serve a faithful God who does not change with circumstances. He keeps His word and fulfills His promises. There may be seasons when we become discouraged because things do not seem to be unfolding according to our expectations. Yet even then, God remains faithful. His timing is perfect, and He never abandons those who trust in Him.
One of the best ways to strengthen our faith during difficult times is to remember God’s faithfulness in our past. Every believer can look back and identify moments when God provided, protected, guided, or answered prayer. The same God who was faithful then is faithful today. He is able to do what seems impossible and to bring hope where there appears to be none.
Today, be encouraged by the faithfulness of God. Perhaps you are facing a challenge that makes you feel forgotten or abandoned. Remember that there is a mighty God who watches over you and will never forsake you. Continue to trust in Him, and in His perfect time, He will see you through.
Prayer
Lord Almighty Father, thank You for being a faithful God who always comes through for Your children, regardless of the circumstances. Teach me to trust You and hold firmly to my faith, even when I cannot see the way forward. Help me to remember Your promises and rest in Your unfailing love. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ!
