Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. — Matthew 17:20

Any life can come up against a mountain — not only physical ones, but spiritual ones as well. We can face mountains of sickness, financial difficulties, broken relationships,disappointment, rejection, fear, or circumstances that seem to have no way out. Some mountains can be so intimidating that we begin to believe they will always stand. They seem so big and forceful that we even tremble at the mere mention of them.

The Bible gives us numerous accounts of those who came up against mountains, both literally and figuratively, and God enabled them to overcome. There is the case of David, who looked up to God and, with just a mere sling, was able to bring down the mountain of Goliath.

We also have Joshua, who came up against the mountain of Jericho. God gave Joshua specific instructions: “Then the Lord said to Joshua, ‘See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.’” (Joshua 6:2–5).

The Israelites proceeded to follow God’s instructions. “And When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city” ( vv 20)

Are you faced with a mountain of any sort? God might need you to conjure up faith as David did. But it could also be that He is calling you to face the mountain using methods that are completely different from normal. The one thing to do is not to fear. But listen to what God is telling you about how to face that mountain. Go and shout im anticipation of your victory. The mountaim shall go down!

Reflection: Am I faced with a mountain so intimidating and overpowering that I tend to lose faith at the mere mention of it? Do I look up to God?

Prayer: Lord Father God, when I am faced with a mountain that appears impossible and threatening, I look up to You, knowing that with Your power I will bring it down for the glory of Your name. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
