“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still”- Exodus 14:14

Have you ever faced a fierce battle when the odds were all stuck against you. King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah found themselves in exactly that situation. A vast coalition of enemies—the Ammonites, Moabites, and Meunites—was advancing against them. Humanly speaking, they had little chance of winning. But see how Jehoshaphat approached the situation.

When the report came—“A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the Dead Sea” (2 Chronicles 20:2)—Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord. He proclaimed a fast throughout Judah, and the people came from every town to seek God’s help (2 Chronicles 20:3-4).

In prayer he acknowledged God’s sovereignty:
“Are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand…” (2 Chronicles 20:6). Then he poured out their helplessness:
“Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:12).

God answered: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s… You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you… Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you” (2 Chronicles 20:15-17).

The next day, as the people of Judah began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against their enemies, and the invading armies were defeated (2 Chronicles 20:22).

Jehoshaphat knew how to face a battle. He first inquired of the Lord, called the people to prayer and fasting, reminded himself of God’s faithfulness, and then went out in faith—with songs and praise to the Almighty.

Whatever battle you are facing today, refuse to surrender to despair. Lift your eyes to God and declare what His Word says. Victory may not come in the way or timing you expect, but His promise remains true: in Christ, you are more than a conqueror.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that my victory is found in Jesus Christ. Help me to speak words of faith instead of fear, hope instead of despair, and victory instead of defeat. Strengthen my heart to trust Your promises even when I cannot yet see the outcome. I declare that You are fighting for me, and through Christ I am more than a conqueror. In Jesus’ name I pray
