“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” (Psalm 139:16)
Moses was born with a clear destiny — to liberate the Israelites from bondage. Yet from the moment of his birth, the enemy tried to destroy that destiny. Pharaoh ordered, “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.” (Exodus 1:22) However, his mother hid him for three months, then placed him in a basket on the Nile. He might have drowned but God was watching. An Egyptian princess rescued the child and raised him as her own. A destiny under attack was divinely preserved.
Jesus too had a destiny foretold by the prophet Isaiah 700 years before His birth. Soon after He was born, King Herod sought to kill Him. But an angel warned Joseph in a dream: “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” (Matthew 2:13). They fled to safety, and God protected the Messiah’s destiny.
Every life carries a destiny. The Lord declares, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5). God has a specific plan for each of us. Yet the enemy — who comes “to steal and kill and destroy” — is constantly at work trying to derail it.
Joseph’s story powerfully illustrates this. As a young man, God gave him dreams of greatness. His brothers, filled with jealousy, plotted to kill him. But God preserved Joseph through betrayal, slavery, and prison until his destiny was fulfilled — saving his family and an entire nation from famine.
All thus is to say your birth was not an accident. The Lord says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11). However, there is a real battle. The enemy seeks to abort destinies — literally through abortion and in many other ways. That is why your destiny is worth fighting for.
Every new day is another opportunity to rise and contend for the good plans God has written about you. Just as He rescued Moses, protected Jesus, and preserved Joseph, He will fight for you and bring His good plans to fulfilment.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, what a blessing it is to know that You created me with purpose and destiny. Thank You that Your plans for me are good. I recognise there is an enemy who seeks to kill and destroy what You have ordained for my life. Grant me the strength, wisdom, and perseverance to fight for my destiny and to fulfil Your purpose for Your glory. This I pray in Jesus’ name.
