“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at a proper time we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up” - Gal 6:19 (NIV)

There are more than countless examples in the scriptures of the Lord rewarding His humble servants for being faithful. Joseph is perhaps the ultimate example of someone who plunged to the depths but never lost his faith in God.

Jacob was motivated by personal gain but he worked faithfully for fourteen years for Laban in order to marry Rachel and Leah (Gen 29:15-30). When once David had the opportunity to kill the man who was pursuing him, Saul, he chose not to. “May the Lord pay every man for his righteousness and faithfulness, for the Lord delivered you into my hands today, but I would not stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed” (I Sam 26: 23). After securing the throne David sang a song of praise to God. “To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless (2 Sam 22:26).

Faithfulness is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control”

(Gal 5:22-23). We are exhorted to remain ever faithful. “Therefore my brothers and sisters stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain” (I Cor 15:58).

Today, let us choose to walk faithfully with the Lord whatever the circumstances. “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favour and a good name in the sight of God and man” (Proverbs 3:3-4).

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of creation, today I choose to walk faithfully with you assured of the blessings that flow and wait for those that persevere and remain faithful, in your Holy name I do pray!
