"Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God" - Luke 18:27 (NIV).

Once upon a time there was a servant who was sent on a difficult mission. His master had stiff instructions for him. He needed him to go back to his land of origin and get a wife for his son, who had come of age.

Now you can imagine being sent out to a foreign land to "get a wife for someone else" among a people you have never met! Where do you start and how do you go about it! “What if the woman is unwilling to come back with me to this land?" (Genesis 25:5), the servant asked his master Abraham with many doubts.

Well, see what happened.

After getting to the distant town of Nahor, "Then he prayed, “Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham" (vv 12). The Lord certainly heard his prayer. For "before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milkah, who was the wife of Abraham’s brother Nahor. The woman was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever slept with her" (vv 15-16).

Long story short she was the one. "Then the man bowed down and worshiped the Lord, saying, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the Lord has led me on the journey to the house of my master’s relatives.” (vv 26-7). The servant would later go back with a wife for his master's son, a groom called Isaac.

A door had opened. But wait a minute, what was the secret here! Well, what we see here is that the servant did not take matters into his own hands. He prayed for success of his mission.

Praying for success in any endeavour, could apply to any of us with a difficult mission ahead, which almost appears impossible. We don't have to name it but there are many mission impossible journeys people set on everyday. Like this servant you too could borrow a leaf, pray and ask the Lord to open doors, and then, you would be surprised!

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, today I commit to you the almost impossible mission ahead of me that you open doors beyond expectations, this I pray in Jesus's name.
