Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” - Proverbs 16:3 (NIV).

While every manager is encouraged to plan, there is one thing every manager would know that even the best of plans can suffer from sudden changes in the environment. All plans are premised on certain assumptions: the availability of funds, willingness of manpower, peace; factors sometimes which we don’t have control. For example, as 2020 begun, who could have guessed there would come along a yearlong pandemic, paralyzing all business operations, by locking down people in their homes and behind closed borders.

That is why Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” This is all to emphasize that while we could all make plans, and however masterfully they are, in the end the power lies with God.

In our individual lives few would argue against the wisdom of planning. But yet at the same time when one fails to realize or concede that there is a limit to all our plans such has lost the point. Plan we may; but we don’t have control of everything.

And speaking of these days, we wake up and hear the sudden loss of life, often of people we knew to be in perfect health, only to be felled by the virus. This can certainly cause a certain fear. Yet in truth there is nothing much to be surprised at. Whatever might be our ideas of life, it is God who is ever in control.

The Christian soldier knows that full well and takes comfort in the supreme knowledge that beyond all preparations for battle there is one who holds the key. As Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, creator of heaven and earth, as we all start the year, with all our plans perfectly written and in place, may we remember that in the end you have  the keys to bring success, and so we lay all our plans at your feet that you who knows the future may guide them to success!
