“The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life” - Job 33:4, ESV).

The air we breathe is something we often take so lightly. But look at this. When a person is struck down by COVID–19, for many who become acutely ill, it often appears, the most critical need is oxygen. Oxygen plays a critical role in respiration, as it releases energy. We need oxygen in the air we breathe to stay alive.

Oxygen is produced through photosynthesis, which is the process used by plants, algae and certain bacteria to harness energy from sunlight and then release it. We have it all in abundance and enjoy it at no cost. But these days, if you go to a typical hospital around Uganda, you might be surprised to find how scarce the supply of oxygen has become. You are tasked to pay a stiff price for oxygen.

The things we take for granted! How often have you and I paused to thank God for this most precious element of life? God through nature everyday provides us oxygen, abundantly, one of the most important elements for life, and, for free. Let us be thankful for these simple things around us, which are a gift and daily reminder of the love of God for us! “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!” (Psalm 150:6).

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, creator of heaven and earth, today I thank you for all the small things of life, so easy to take for granted, like oxygen, which reveals your abundant love ever for me!
