“and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always to the very end of the age” - Mathew 28:20 (NIV)

In any long journey the feeling of abandonment can arise. This feeling can arise when the journey does not go according to plan exactly. In 2020 there has been many unexpected twists and turns. Few would have anticipated such disastrous events like the corona virus and locust invasion which have shaken the lives of us all.

However, there are numerous comforting statements where God promises us he will be with us through whatever upheavals. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave nor forsake you” (Deut 31:6). These words were spoken to Joshua as he took on the mantle from Moses whom the Lord had seen to the end.

Joshua would go on to win as many battles, keeping true to the words of the Lord over his life. “Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty -five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So, here am I today, eighty five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I am just as vigorous to go to battle as then” (Joshua 14:10-11).

Prayer for today: Lord God father in heaven, today I pray to hold on to your words that you will be with us to the end of the day!
