“But as many as received him, to those he gave the right to become the children of God, even to those who believe in his name” - John 1:12 (NIV).

For most school children who are dependent once there are sent home for school fees the natural instinct is to run to a Godfather somewhere. It could be a biological parent or someone who has committed to help out. The Godfather would then do what is in his power to oblige and meet the needs of the child.

As children of God we have a father in heaven. Where we are faced with a challenging situation he is the one who to run to. While for our earthly Godfathers we might find that circumstances or moods might not make them able our God never fails. “God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship, with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (I Cor 1:9).

Yet the sad thing is that even us who believe in God when beset with challenges so often we tend to react like we are fatherless. It is expected of the non believers to be desperate as they search about for help. But we who have a Father in heaven should never. Instead we should run to our father in confidence with our prayers and requests.

And like a good father He will meet our needs. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, with thanksgiving present your request to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6-7).

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham in heaven, today I pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, that you do you meet all my needs according to your name. Amen
