“The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” - Psalm 118:6 (NIV)

Imagine you are about to set out on a long journey. Many would imagine that the most important commodity they would need is money. Yet when Jesus was about to leave the disciples it was not money he had for them. Rather, he promised to send to them that which he knew they will need most. The Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit was first poured out on believers on Pentecostal Sunday. “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them” (Acts 2:4). It was soon clear that the lives of those believers were never the same. Empowered they now moved out boldly to preach the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. Those who had seen them before looked astonished. Their lives were now filled with power and miraculous blessings.

In our times do we still need the Holy Spirit as then. Our Lord promised, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you” (John  14:8, ESV). In trouble the Holy Spirit is our comforter but also our teacher where we go astray. “But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost whom the father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring all remembrance whatever I said  (John 14:26).

If we want to grow in Christ and continue to experience the marvellous wonders of God in our lives let us ever rely and look to the Holy Spirit. “And I will ask the Father and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever “ (John 14: 16).

Prayer  for today: Lord Father in heaven today I pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth to ever rely and depend on the power of the Holy Spirit, our daily comforter and advocate.
