“For his anger lasts only for a moment, but his favour lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning” - Psalm 30:5 (NIV).
There is no life without its bits of low moments, regardless. There are events that can come our way and certainly deny us of abundant joy. For example the once prosperous Job after he lost all his children, livestock and belonging fell on his face and wept. “Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb. For sighing has become my daily food; my groans pour out like water” (Job 3: 11-24).
King David who even after being pursued by Saul but eventually overcoming him was in many instances made to turn to God with a heavy heart. Once after he was pushed out of his court by a rebellious son, he cried, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?” (Psalm 22: 1).
It is clear that the life of great characters used of God none was not spared of tribulations, as any of us. But what also comes through that where there was sorrow God would also come through and bring comfort. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we received from God” (2 Cor 1:3).
Out of whatever low moment, God comes and not only comforts us, but brings joy. King David wrote “When anxiety was within me your consolation brought me joy” (Psalm 94:19). Further, he knew, as he wrote, “He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for the sake of His name” (Psalm 23:3).
Today whatever is the situation turn to the ultimate comforter. Pray as it were, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him and am helped. My heart leaps for joy, and I will give thanks to him in song” (Psalm 28: 7).
Prayer for today: Lord Father God in heaven, I turn to you, in my low moment, that where there is distress and sorrow you fill me with your spirit of joy and peace that surpasses all human understanding.
